Conducted a pre-feasibility study of a proposed grass roots phosphate fertilizer complex in Yunnan Province, China. The project included sulfur imports, rock mining and beneficiation, sulphuric acid production, power generation, phosphoric acid and diammonium phosphate production, and ammonia production from coal.
-
Developed a phosphoric acid production process for a chlorapatite rock from Sri Lanka. This high chloride rock cannot be converted to phosphoric acid using standard technology. A process has been developed and tested, and now awaits further development of the project.
-
Directed numerous projects to evaluate alternative mining processes. These include flotation alternatives and use of heavy media.
-
Completed technical, financial and commercial evaluation of possible by-product recovery from phosphate rock/phosphoric acid. These evaluations included silicon tetrafluoride, fluoride salts, fluosilicic acid, calcium fluoride, hydrogen fluoride, silica, and aluminum fluoride.
-
Completed and piloted projects evaluating the by-product recovery from gypsum. Production of sulphuric acid and aggregates from gypsum and the use of gypsum in cement were involved.
-
Managed projects evaluating the conversion of dihydrate phosphoric acid processes to the hemihydrate process.
Included effects on grinding requirements, filtration area, corrosion, and energy requirements.
-
Reviewed mining plans for a major US phosphate producer and recommended changes to significantly improve productivity.
-
Evaluated numerous phosphate rocks for potential uranium extraction by the solvent extraction process. Rocks from several Florida mines, Morocco, and Brazil were tested.
-
Other technical and economic evaluations for a wide variety of projects.
