Environmental Experience

CTI’s staff has been providing environmental services for over thirty years. A sampling of some of the more significant work conducted:

  • Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and air/water permits for gold mining and processing in Nevada.

  • Environmental Impact Statement and air/water permits for sulphur processing/terminaling project in Russia and the Ukraine.

  • Environmental Impact Statements for expansions for copper, gold and silver mining and milling operations and a “grass roots” copper smelter in Indonesia.

  • Due Diligence” environmental assessments for the acquisition of major fertilizer production companies and major oil and gas company acquisitions in the U.S.

  • Due Diligence” reviews for the acquisition of mining/smelting assets and fertilizer operations in Spain.

  • Due Diligence” reviews for the acquisition of a geothermal energy production company in the U.S.

  • Environmental, health and safety (EH&S) compliance audits of major industrial facilities in the U.S., Spain, and Indonesia.

  • Environmental management systems (EMS) assessment audits under ISO 14001 protocols as certified ISO lead auditors.

  • Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) for real estate transfers of commercial, industrial and residential properties.

  • Provided lead technical strategists to litigation counsel and expert testimony in various intellectual property/regulatory venues.

  • Ecological/environmental / regulatory assessment studies in the United States, Indonesia, Spain, the Soviet Union, Panama, Egypt, China, Chile, Australia and Sri Lanka.

  • Biological sampling and assessment programs of inland and offshore waters in Louisiana, the Soviet Union, and Indonesia

  • Ecological baseline (pre-operational) studies for copper smelters in Indonesia, gold mines in the mountains of Nevada, and offshore sulphur mines in Louisiana.

  • Environmental impact assessments for a nickel-cobalt mine and refinery in Australia.

  • Long-term environmental monitoring programs in remote locations of Indonesia including sophisticated computer data gathering devices; design and development of a “state of the art” environmental analytical laboratory; and, design and operation of a specialized marine research boat.

  • Land use / water quality / biological / endangered species (10A permit) monitoring programs for large residential/golf course developments.

  • Databases for water quality analyses, graphic data interpretation and reporting.

  • Tailings River Management Program and Overburden Management Plan Study for copper, gold and silver mining operations in Indonesia.

  • Site reconnaissance and environmental assessment for an underground coal mine in Colorado.

  • Environmental assessment, permitting and design of pollution control systems for a large coal terminal in Louisiana.

  • Environmental analysis documents for the world’s largest offshore Frasch sulphur mining facility on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf.

  • Air and water permitting activities for the first Claus Sulphur Recovery Unit in the Gulf of Mexico.

  • Pollution control systems for a nickel-cobalt refinery pilot plant and testing/analysis of its operations for a facility built in Australia.

  • Permitting for an “in-situ” copper leaching project in Arizona.

  • SO2 monitoring and environmental impact analysis for a platform in the Gulf of Mexico.

  • Air quality computer modeling for permitting and ambient compliance studies for numerous facilities in the U.S., including hazardous air pollutants and PSD analyses.

  • Ambient air monitoring and MET data collection for facilities in the U.S., Soviet Union and Indonesia.

  • Feasibility, environmental and engineering studies for power co-geneneration and generation units installed in fertilizer plants in Florida and Louisiana and a mining refinery in Indonesia.

  • Prefeasibility and protocol development studies for environmental impact of power generating units to be located in Chile, Peru, China and Indonesia.

  • Clean Air Act—Title V operating permit applications for Louisiana, Texas and Florida chemical plants and marine terminals (including emission inventories, air quality impact assessments, emission testing and monitoring, development of flexible operating alternatives and governmental negotiations).

  • Innovative surface water discharge reduction for fertilizer facilities in Louisiana.

  • Biomonitoring and bioaccumulation studies for a NPDES permit in connection with oil and gas exploration and production.

  • NPDES permits for chemical plants in Louisiana for toxicity identification evaluations and toxicity reductions through waste minimization.

  • NORM (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials) program for oil and gas exploration and production.

  • Asbestos abatement programs at a former fertilizer production and terminaling facility in Iowa; gas plants in Oklahoma, Colorado and Alabama; and operations in Louisiana.

  • Petroleum products and hazardous materials Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure Plans (including OPA-90 Plans) for mining operations in Indonesia and various facilities in the U.S.

  • Modification documents (under the Louisiana DEQ solid waste permit system) for fertilizer and sulphur facilities.

  • Waste site investigation and remediation programs in the U.S. - under both CERCLA and state regulations (which involved potentially responsible party committee activities, consultant selection and oversight, agency negotiations, natural resource damage claims, contribution claims, and alternate-dispute-resolution).
